DAVE SAPPELT

A native of Buffalo, New York, Dave Sappelt was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 9th round of the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft from Coastal Carolina University. Sappelt spent his first professional season with the Mustangs in '08, playing in 62 games and producing an impressive .299 batting average, with 7 HRs and 35 RBIs, helping the Mustangs to a 42-32 record. Following his season in Billings, Sappelt ascended the Reds minor league system quickly, eventually making his Major League debut with the Reds in 2011, playing in a total of 38 big-league games. Dave was traded to the Chicago Cubs prior to the 2012 season and spent the ’12 and ’13 seasons going back and forth between the big league Cubs and the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. After being released by the Cubs following the 2013 season, Sappelt bounced around multiple leagues, playing in the Mexican Winter League, Venezuelan Winter League, and with the Portland Sea Dogs, the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. He finished his professional playing career in 2018 with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Independent Atlantic League, retiring at the age of 31.
