Tullar's Performance Headlines 5-2 Mustang Win

The Mustangs come from behind to defeat the Missoula Paddleheads 5-2 Tuesday afternoon.

Billings (18-20) has now come from behind in 10 of 18 games to win the ball game this season. The Mustangs have beaten the Paddleheads more than any other Pioneer League team this season with four victories.

Missoula (28-10) kicked off the scoring with an RBI single by catcher Austin Bernard, who made it to third base and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

Mustang designated hitter Connor Denning launched a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. It's the first home run to lead off a game for the Mustangs in 2023.

Mustang starting left-hander Cam Tullar settled in after that, retiring the next three batters. From the second to the fourth, Tullar retired seven straight batters including the third where he struck out the side in order - all caught looking.

Mustangs tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single by first-baseman Jason Ajamian which scored center-fielder Taylor Lomack. Billings added on in the fifth on a two-RBI double by second-baseman Wyatt Crenshaw, and an RBI single by shortstop Luke Fennelly to score Crenshaw and make it 5-2.

Cam Tullar exited the game in the sixth after tossing five innings giving up just two runs earned on four hits, a walk with seven strikeouts.

Right-hander Trevor Jackson tossed three scoreless innings for the third outing in a row. He faced just three more than the minimum over that time, giving up just three hits with a strikeout.

Left-hander Hunter Schilperoort saw four batters, and struck out two, while putting designated hitter Dondrei Hubbard on first with a single and right-fielder Jake Guenther on, hitting him with a pitch.

With two outs, Manager Billy Horton opted for the right-hander Tyler Statler, who proposed to his longtime girlfriend before first pitch today. Statler tossed four pitches to second-baseman Jacob Kline, and struck him out swinging to pull the Mustangs back to within two games of .500.

The Mustangs look for their second consecutive series win Wednesday. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:15 with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN 910/105.5 FM or ESPN910.com. You can also watch every pitch on FloSports.
