Offense Falls Flat in 5-4 Loss

The Mustangs surrender a three-spot in the bottom of the seventh and the lead as they fall 5-4 to the Voyagers.

Great Falls (12-12 2H) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a leadoff walk by Xane Washington, Jaylyn Williams hit a two-out RBI double off Billings (13-12 2H) starting right-hander Karan Patel

The Mustangs answered in the top of the third with a sac fly RBI by Gabe Wurtz to score Brendan Ryan, who singled with one out, to tie it at 1.

The Ponies scored in each of their next two innings, while Karan Patel sent down eight in a row from the third into the fifth.

In the fourth, John Michael Faile and Mikey Edie led off the frame with singles, and Blake Evans scored them both for his first professional RBIs as the Mustangs led 3-1.

Alejandro Figueredo hit a mammoth 423-foot bomb to left field in the fifth to extend the Mustang lead to 4-1.

Patel ran into trouble in the fifth, surrendering a two-out walk and back to back base hits to make it a 4-2 game. K.P went five innings giving up two runs, both earned, on four hits and three walks with four punchouts.

Keagan McGinnis relieved Patel in the sixth and shoved his way through on nine pitches with a punchout. McGinnis gave up back to back singles in the seventh, with a Sac Fly by Washington to score Emmanuel, while Riley Jepson singled to bring up Williams who hit both Jepson and Hesse to make it 5-4.

The Mustangs were unable to put more than one runner on base from the fifth through the ninth inning, and they did not have a single runner in scoring position during that time frame.

In total, the Mustangs were 1-5 with three RBIs with RISP this evening. Meanwhile, three of five runs came for the Voyagers with two outs.

The Mustangs also could only muster one hit off slow-tossing southpaw Tommy Snyder over two innings and he earns the win while McGinnis receives his second loss on the season.

Hunter Schilperoort faced two more than the minimum in the eighth, but kept the Voyagers off the board to keep it close. Unfortunately, the Mustangs went down in order in the ninth.

The Mustangs will try to even up the series Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. with pre-game coverage starting at 6:40 p.m. on ESPN 910/105.5 KBLG or ESPN910.com. You can also watch every pitch on FloSports.
