Party Like It's '06

The Mustangs erase an eight-run deficit and beat the Raptors 13-11 Thursday evening. 

 

The Mustangs have now won 10 in a row and are only a game behind Missoula for the second-half North Division title. 

 

With the bases loaded in the eighth, Mustangs picking up seven runs over their last three-plus innings, John Michael Faile hit a grand slam to put the Mustangs ahead by a score of 12-10. Brendan Ryan would come around to score on a wild pitch after walking and stealing second and third to make it 13-10. 

 

To the first inning, the Raptors jumped ahead on an RBI triple by Reese Alexiades to score Cameron Phelts, and Logan Williams brought home Alexiades to take a 2-0 lead. 

 

The Mustangs answered in the second with a two-RBI single by Mikey Edie to bring home Brendan Ryan and Mitch Moralez

 

Yet, the Raptors continued their onslaught in the third. Phelts led off the inning and Alexiades followed with his own walk. Williams singled to load the bases, Nick Ultsch grounded into a fielder's choice to take a 3-2 lead. 

 

With two outs, Jonathan Soto hit a RBI double to bring home Alexiades, Colton Horner singled, and Rafael Narae brought home Williams on a double, and Josh Broughton capped off the inning bringing home Narea and the Raptors led 8-2. 

 

They added on in the fourth on back to back to back hits. Ultch picked up a two-out double, and Connors brought him home with a double, while Soto brought home Connors to make it 10-2. 

 

The Mustangs began their comeback in the fifth. Luke Fennelly brought home Mikey Edie on a double to make it 10-3. 

 

In the sixth, Brendan Ryan hit an opposite-way home run to pull within six, and Mitch Moralez pulled a ball over the left field wall to make it 10-5. 

 

Faile picked up his first of five RBIs on a blooper into right-center field to bring home Lomack and the Mustangs only trailed by 10-6. 

 

With one out in the eighth, Brady West walked, and Mikey Edie moved him to second. Lomack hit home West on a ball into right field, Edie took third, and then the ball from Phelts got away from the catcher Horner which allowed Edie to score. Fennelly and Gabe Wurtz picked up back-to-back walks to bring Faile to the dish, and he launched a ball over the right-center field wall to take the lead. 

 

Pitching wise, Ethan McRae tossed three and two-thirds giving up 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits and three walks. Trevor Jackson tossed the remainder of the fourth through the sixth scoreless giving up three walks to three strikeouts. Keagan McGinnis receives the winning decision tossing the seventh and eighth, giving up just  a ru in the eighth on two walks and an RBI double by Dave Tofteland in the eighth to make it 13-11. 

 

The Mustangs leaned on Hunter Schilperoort in the ninth. He struck out the side despite giving up a lead-off, two-strike single to Cameron Phelts. His first strikeout gave him 50 strikeouts on the season for the first time in his professional career, and he earns his sixth save of the season.
