Mustangs Rebound with 7-2 win
Mustangs bounce back from a historic loss Thursday, beating the Boise Hawks Friday 7-2.
While Ethan McRae showed why he's so good at creating weak contact, navigating out of a tough jam, Austin Mora receives the win for the Mustangs.
McRae went four and two thirds giving up just two runs, one earned, on six hits with a strikeout. Mora improves to 1-1 after giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.
The Mustangs got to Boise right-hander Robbie Dudzinski early. Blake Evans broke an 0-11 streak with a two-run home run with two outs in the second to give the Mustangs a lead.
Alejandro Figueredo shot a ball the opposite way into right-center in the third to give the Mustangs a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth, McRae had the bases loaded, and gave up an RBI single to Troy Viola. However, McRae sent down the next three batters with a strikeout on Patrick Merino, an infield fly by Trevor Minder, and a ground ball by Joey Kalafut to escape with the lead.
McRae ran into trouble in the fifth, as Micah Yonamine singled to bring home Noah Marcello, who got hit by a pitch with one out. McRae forced Ben Livorsi to ground out, which signaled the end of his outing. Overall, McRae induced nine ground ball outs this evening.
Mora left the tying and go-ahead runs stranded in scoring position with a strikeout on Troy Viola. The Mustangs rewarded Mora with a sac fly by Briley Knight to bring home Pat Mills, while Jason Rooks hit a two-run home run off the video board to give the Mustangs a 6-2 lead.
Mora hit a batter and gave up a hit, but he held the Hawks off the board with a strikeout in the sixth.
Brendan Medoro shut out the Hawks in the seventh giving up just a leadoff hit, and capped off his outing with a strikeout.
Ty Pohlmann tossed a perfect eighth inning while striking out Kalafut.
Mustangs received an insurance run in the eighth on a solo home run by Brendan Ryan that went off the batter's eye to push his hitting streak to a team-leading eight games.
Trevor Jackson pitched a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to give the Mustangs their sixth win on the year.
