
Mustangs Fall 5-2
The Mustangs fall 5-2 in the series opener to Ogden.
They went 0-10 with runners in scoring position tonight and left 12 runners on bases.
Although Luke Trueman pitched very well, earning his first quality start of the year, he receives the loss. He tossed seven innings giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
A balk by Ogden starter Guillermo Cuevas in the first allowed Brendan Ryan and the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead.
An RBI single by Chris Sargent tied the game in the bottom of the first.
The Mustangs added a run in the fourth with a one out walk by Issac Lovings, who advanced to second and third with balks, while Jason Rooks hit him home with a ground ball to short to take a 2-1 lead.
In the home half of that inning Landen Barnes doubled to lead it off, while Nick Ultsch singled home Barnez. Chris Sargent reached on an error by Travis Holt, and Pearce Howard hit home Ultsch, and Connor Bagnieski hit Howard home to go up 5-2.
The Mustangs left a pair of runners on in the fifth and seventh, and only had two hits in the final five innings.
In the fifth, Ryan led it off with a double, and moved to third on a Taylor Lomack ground ball. Travis Holt walked, but Patrick Mills and Mitch Moralez could not bring them home.
Ryan led off the seventh hit by a pitch, while Holt walked again with one out, and Mills struck out with a fly ball to left by Moralez.
Jason Rooks collected a two-out double in the eighth, but Blake Evans grounded out to end the inning.
Daniel Willie tossed two outs in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a walk and a base hit, while Jonathan Haab tossed a strikeout and hit a batter.
Ryan led off the top of the ninth with a walk, but could not come around to score.
